Square dancing helps keep you fit.  It's a low impact activity requiring constant movement and directional changes which will keep you in shape.  In an hour of dancing you can burn off a lot of calories.

All regular exercise like square dancing can help tone up your cardiovascular system and strengthen your weight bearing bones. If you need to exercise after illness, try square dancing as a good alternative to aerobics or jogging.  Most of all square dancing is fun so it must be good for you.  

Square dancing is a mental challenge as well as physical exercise.  You have to react quickly to the caller, so you need to concentrate.  This will take your mind off your worries.  You are constantly learning new moves but in an easy and enjoyable way.

Square dancing is a group activity. Go through the door of a square dance club and you will find yourself amongst  a group of friends. As a member you will be able to take part in any club social events or activity.  It doesn't matter if you are a couple or single, you will be up dancing immediately. 
You will find square dancing moves are the same worldwide.  All the calls are standard and are in English so there are no problems with language.  You will find that every club will welcome visitors, especially from abroad.  You can join in straight away to dance at your programme level.
